Dear Guidance Counselor,

The Henry Clay Center for Statesmanship is celebrating 10 years of summer student congresses in partnership with The Council of State Governments, the University of Kentucky's Martin School of Public Policy and Administration, and Transylvania University.

The week-long programs, held at Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky., give students the opportunity to meet with lawmakers, academics, journalists, and civic leaders to discuss the practical importance of compromise, constructive engagement, and dialogue to resolve conflict and competing interests in a democracy.

Nationally recognized guest speakers engage in seminars with the students, followed by student debate on current issues in political leadership. Past speakers have included justices of the U.S. Supreme Court, speakers of the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. senators, governors, and other nationally recognized officials and academic thought leaders.

The Student Congress programs are free (including travel forthose traveling by plane) to those selected. The Henry Clay Center seeks current high school juniors with records of exceptional academic and extracurricular achievement from all regions of the country to apply.

The high school student congress will be June 4 to June 10, 2017. Please forward this email to current high school juniors. The deadline for application is February 28, 2017.
