ATTENTION FRESHMEN, SOPHOMORES, and JUNIORS!

Students wanting to take the PSAT exam at Anderson County High School on Wednesday - Oct 19, 2016 must register for exams by 11:59 pm, September 18, 2016. Registrations that are not paid by 11:59 PM, Wednesday, Sep 21, 2016 will be cancelled and exams will not be ordered.

This is especially important for any Juniors wanting to apply to the Governor's Scholars Program this year.

Please contact Mrs. Jerilyn Hanks, [email protected] if you have any questions.

Wednesday September 14th from 9:00-10:30 am will be our annual College and Career Fair for our seniors and juniors to visit and talk with colleges, universities, military, and UPS Metropolitan College.

***Please strongly encourage your senior and junior students to use their smart phones to scan the attached QC code or go to www.gotocollegefairs.com to pre-register for the college fair. Instead of going from table to table (there are at least 45) filling out an interest card, most tables will be equipped with a bar code reader. The printed (or on cell phone) bar code will enable colleges to collect student data for follow-up and allow our students to utilize their visit to the fair more efficiently.

No School on Monday September 19th for professional development day.

ASVAB test will be given on Wednesday September 21st for those seniors who are not college ready.

Thursday September 29th will be our annual Senior Parent Night from 6-7
pm with our Parent Connection Night taking place from 4-7 pm.

October 1st is the first day for seniors and their parents to fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid) for financial aid for the 2017-2018 school year.

Commissioner's Student Council:

In order to gain valuable feedback from Kentucky students and to engage student leaders in learning by doing, the Kentucky education commissioner created the Commissioner's Student Council. This group meets with the commissioner and Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) staff to discuss how decisions made at the state level are affecting students throughout Kentucky and provide feedback - from a student perspective - on critical issues impacting Kentucky students and schools.

The Commissioner's Student Council is a year-long program for Kentucky public school students in grades 10-12. The council will play a vital role in providing input regarding issues that face education in Kentucky and work with KDE staff to develop ideas that will work to improve and transform education.

The council seeks students with refreshing ideas and thoughtful insight into how we can further improve our schools and student achievement. As such, we encourage all students to apply in order to represent the diverse academic, geographic, demographic and school-size variables particular to our state.

Students can visit http://bit.ly/KDECSC to access the application and read FAQs for the council. Please have students and parents read the FAQs prior to completing the application. Most questions can be answered by the FAQs.

Applications must be received by postal mail, hand delivery or email to Stephanie Siria at KDE no later than 4:30 p.m. ET Thursday, September 15. Applications also will be accepted with a postmark date of September 15 or earlier. Instructions on how to complete the application for submission by mail or email are included in the FAQs.

Questions? Contact Stephanie Siria at [email protected] or (502) 564-2000, ext. 4614.
